It’s a civil war!

Sectarian strife? Sunni on Shia violence? Burning Cars?

U.S. out of Lebanon!.

Oh. Never Mind.

Lessons learned when sanding soft wood at 400 grit

Don’t inhale.

The secret to cooking eggs.

Bacon. Seriously. Bacon.

Fry bacon, then put eggs on bacon fat. They won’t stick. I’ve had eggs stick to teflon pans, metal pans, infused pans. I’ve used every kind of fat (except bacon). The eggs always stick.

So that was my problem all along - cleaning the pan after cooking the bacon.

duh.

I’d heard about neighborhoods like this…

But never thought I’d live in one.

Just got back from walking the Canine-American, and I noticed something along the way.

Every house on the block looks exactly. like. mine. Well, not exactly like mine does now, but like it did when it was plunked here. You can see the modifications that were done to some over the years, but in 1954 this was a neighborhood of absolutely identical houses, one after another, about 50 times.

And across the street is another neighborhood in a similar vein - all the houses alike. My neighborhood - bungalow-style ranches. Across the street - capes.

It’s a rather interesting thing to see.

Snow, eh?

I’m going to go out on a limb here. I’m going to state (without any backup) that this is the latest “first snow” the central Connecticut valley has had in my lifetime. Sure, there was the little squall back in November, but it didn’t stick. And I don’t care what happened in the Northwest hills.

This is, on the eighteenth day of January, the first snow that managed to stick to anything for more than an hour or two. I fully expect to wake up with snow still on the ground tomorrow.

And that’s what constitutes “snow” for me - it’s still here when I wake up.

Nearly a full month after the Winter Solstice (which marks the ‘official’ beginning of winter), and two months after Thanksgiving (the unofficial beginning) we finally get snow. Granted, it’s less than an inch, but it’s still snow.

Riding to the shore

Saturday, January 6, 2007. New England Motorcycle Show at the Expo Center. Got to see the bikes from an upcoming Biker Build-Off. It’s incredible to see these machines up-close and personal. When we left the show at noon or thereabouts, it was 70 degrees. Let that sink in. Seventy degrees, at the 43rd parallel. In January.

So we did the only thing that we could. We hopped on our bikes and headed for the shore. We weren’t the only ones with that idea.

Lenny and Joe’s, on the patio. In January. And other motorcycles rolling by. There were hundreds of bikes out.

If this is what global warming means, bring it on!

Pictures when I get them developed. Yes. Film. Up yours.
