High Score, bitches!

Zoo Keeper. Top Score. Not a personal best, but good enough to take out the previous leader. That’s right, I bad!

Toys!

Won me an Atari Flashback 2. Can you say “MAME”. I knew you could.

Also bought a “Darth Vader” 4-switch 2600 for modding. I’m thinking about putting a media PC in that one.

And bought a homebrew 5200 game - Koffi Yellow Copter.

We’re HEEEEERRREEE!

After a hard night of gaming, we’re ready to hit the show floor today. Played a little of the Guitar Hero 2 demo disc. I think I need to get me that game.

“My”, take two.

I think it’s starting to sink in. I put the car in the garage, just because I can.

MY car, in MY garage, at MY house.

Raided the new Home Depot. We have garbage can.

Got the lockset installed in the back door. A little drum sander to straighten out the hole and it’s all good.

Got a ceiling fan, but I’m afraid the house may be too short for it. Which would suck, since it’s a way cool fan. I might put it up anyhow. Todd, you’ll need to duck.

I have no clue what color to paint anything. I’m giving serious thought to going random on it. As in get a bunch of color chips, tape them to the wall, and throw darts. Whatever doesn’t make me want to hurl goes in that room.

The Elan can see!

Got the Elan back. They “recalibrated” the focus sensor. I’m hoping this was a one-off failure and not something that’s going to recur.

Preliminary tests indicate that they nailed it though. It’s focusing accurately on all points now. I’ll expose a few rolls and see what happens.

The meaning of “My”

As in “My House” has been permanently changed.

Now when I say “My House”, I’m not talking about a place that belongs to someone else that I’m just borrowing.

The house needs lots of work. I’ll probably chronicle my long journey here. Of course, I’ve given myself three weeks to do everything. Clearly, I’ve lost my mind.

I’ve gotten half of the new locks in. The old ones worked fine, but the locksets and the deadbolts were different colors, different manufacturers, and different keys. So I swapped them out for ones that are all matched. Well, half of them anyhow. Newer locks have shields on them, and one of the doors isn’t cut enough for the new lock to fit. I’ll deal with it later.

The biggest task I have ahead of me is figuring out what I can afford to do before I move in.

On hockey, and the not playing thereof.

Went to see the Hartford Wolfpack “play” hockey last night. I put play in quotes, because while they were certainly attired for the game, play is what they did not do.

There does not appear to be any cohesiveness to the play. Dropped passes abound. Missed opportunities rule the day. Nine times on the power play, and no goals scored. 0 for 9. Bupkes.

It appears to me, from Row N, that there’s just no communication or chemistry between the players on the line. Hartford lacks “wanna”. They don’t wanna be champions, it seems.

Maybe they just need to work out the kinks. There’s a lot of new blood on the team this year, most of it under the age of 21. I don’t know what’s happening in New York, but I imagine that the Rangers have pulled most of last year’s talent up to the bigs because they were a hurting unit themselves.

Is this what happens to the minor franchises when the major league team is in a shambles? Hopefully they can rebuild. We shall see.

Two days left!

The next two days are going to be the longest of my life thus far. I’m waiting to close on the single biggest financial transaction of my life - buying a house.

And I’m terrified. Because thirty years seems like an awfully long time to be in debt.

But at least it nets me a garage to store my bike in, and a yard for my dog to play in.

Rain + Tree + Wind = THUD!

We had a bit of rain yesterday. And then the wind came. Gusts strong enough that leaves were blowing across Maple street and staying at the height where they left the tree. Big winds.

So, not surprisingly, trees fell, wires fell, etc.

I was over Todd’s house with Ken, and we needed to come back to my place for drill bits.

When we pulled in to the driveway, this is what we saw:

That’s Todd (all 6 feet plus of him) for reference.

Of course, I immediately panic. Run to the back to make sure my bike wasn’t hit by any shrapnel. It’s fine. Figuring that someone’s gonna be here to deal with the tree tomorrow, I decide to move the bike to Todd’s for the night. Smart move, truck showed up today.

This is what they saw:

Amazingly, no damage to the house is apparent.

When the tree guys showed up, they couldn’t get the truck into the back yard, since the driveway slopes up steeply at the beginning. These guys have the hacker nature, however. See, the truck has three axles in the back, since it’s used for hauling logs. But that third axle at the back isn’t driven. And it was lifting the drive wheels off the ground.

So they tried to make the truck lift its own tail up:

But, that didn’t work. The driveway was too much for their silly rope. It was then that they decided that the hydraulic boom could double as a winch. I have no pictures of that, since I didn’t want to be around if the rope broke. But they tied a rope around one of the remaining trees in the yard, tied that to the extended boom, and pulled the truck up the hill. Once they got the drive wheels back on the ground, they were home free.

A couple hours later, and the trees are all but gone.

Well, the auto-focus on the EOS isn’t doing so well. So it’s going back to Canon for a warranty repair. I suspect it never worked right from the start, but it took me a while to figure out that the blurry pictures wasn’t my fault.

So, while it’s off to repair, I’m back to Old Faithful - the AE-1.

So long as I can keep my eyes from tripping out, I should still be able to squeeze good pictures out of the old girl. But I’ll miss my image stabilizer lens.
