Now that you mention Coach Coughlin

Someone please take the coach aside and tell him to pull Eli Manning. Please!

Eli, you’ve got potential. I’ll give you that. But you gotta stop throwing the INT.

3 interceptions in a playoff shutout isn’t gonna look good on the resumé.

23-0? Coming off an 11-5 season, you’d expect that the Giants had SOME OFFENSE. Or not. The season was a mixed bag. Blowing a field goal attempt in the last seconds of regulation, and then missing two more in overtime to lose to Seattle? Allowing 2 special teams and one defensive touchdown against the hapless VIKINGS? The Vikings had 137 yards of total offense AND THEY WON 24-21.

So, given the fact that the Giants should have been 13-3, I was still surprised to see them get to the Wild Card. There were games where the Giants were absolutely brilliant. And then there’s days like today.

Questions for a potential member of the Supreme Court of the United States of America

Judge Samuel Alito begins Senate confirmation hearings next week for a seat on the Supreme Court of the United States of America (SCOTUS). By all accounts, it’s going to be a slobberknocker. The Democrats managed to get a month’s delay so they could dig up every piece of dirt they can find on this guy. I’m expecting their opposition to amount to “he was involved in a dwarf-tossing scandal in 1973″.

Because if anyone has any objections to this man based upon judicial philosophy, I haven’t heard a thing about it. Well, one thing. The media and the left-wing advocacy groups are obsessing over Roe v. Wade as though it is the only case that the Supreme Court ever decided. The right-wing advocacy groups are talking about how he might have a hair out of place. Neither of these things is meaningful in any way.

If we want to find out how this man thinks, and how he might decide on things, let us ask him some substantive questions about cases that actually matter.

For instance, if he could explain to us the logic underlying the majority decision in McConnell v. Federal Election Commission. Specifically, I’m interested in the manner in which a time-based restriction on the usage of particular phrases (such as candidate names) is compatible with the First Amendment requirement that Congress shall make no law…abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press…?

Or how he would consider Grutter v. Bollinger to square with both the 14th Amendment and the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Or how the majority decision in Kelo v. New London can be reconciled with the 5th Amendment: nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

These are all matters that are of far greater import to the health of the Republic than whether a federally protected right to abortion exists in some interpretation of the Constitution.

Yes, I AM questioning your patriotism.

Murtha. The story that would not die.

Here’s what you lefties just don’t get. And what most on the right are afraid to say, because they don’t want to look bad. I already look bad, so I don’t really care.

Congressman Murtha - I AM questioning your patriotism. For you to state unequivocally that the United States can not win a war is unpatriotic in the extreme.

To put it bluntly, how long do you think Coach Coughlin would keep you on board as a linebacker if you kept holding press conferences in which you said “This team cannot hope to win the superbowl, and should just withdraw from the playoffs now.” My guess? Five minutes into your little stunt your ass would be benched, and you’d probably find yourself on the receiving end of a contract termination.

God willing, the people of the good state of Pennsylvania will do to you what Coach would do to such a linebacker.

Have a nice retirement.

Possibly the most important thing you will read this year

No, not this post.

This article by Mark Steyn.

This is, perhaps, a more troubling problem than Iranian “President” Ahmadinejad. At least someone can put a hole in him and he goes away. How do you put a hole in the demographic decline of an entire continent? If the non-Islamists don’t start making with the babies, like right the hell now, Europe is going to be All Islam, All The Time by 2050, and probably a whole hell of a lot sooner, if events in France and the Netherlands are anything to go by.

Actually, something that would make the slide happen faster, and I’m surprised that Mr. Steyn didn’t mention it, is the mass out-migration of non Islamists from the Eurpoean countries presently being overrun. At some point, the idea of “home” and “culture” become so perverted that “alive” and “free” take precedence, and people vote with their feet. Expect a lot of Europeans to show up on our shores (what, again?) - but this time they’ll be whimpering about how they lost their homeland because nobody could be bothered to reproduce.

Hat tip - pretty much everyone. VodkaPundit (congrats on the new sleep deprivation device, Steven!) was the first place I saw it.
