Depends on what your definition of ‘illegal’ is…
I refer, of course, to this.
Today, March 29, 2004, a group of protestors was bussed to the home of Karl Rove, the President’s chief political advisor. They surrounded his house, shouted slogans, waved signs, and pounded on his windows. I will credit the man with showing marvelous restraint, as nobody was hurt as a result of this unprecedented assault on a citizen.
What were they protesting for? Apparently they want Mr. Rove to convince the president to support some legislation they’d like passed. What it would do is grant “conditional legal status” to the children of illegal aliens that finish 4 years in a US high school. This would be done so that they could qualify for the lower in-state tuition afforded to American citizens.
These are people that are in the country in violation of the law in the first place. And now they want not only to have their transgressions dismissed, but they want a reward as well? What makes them think that they have a right to impose upon the American taxpayer? Do they think that because they pay some level of taxes in this country (by committing fraud to get a fake Social Security number, I might add) that they are entitled to some benefit?
I have a better idea. Refund them all the taxes they paid, and tell them they have 96 hours to gather their stuff and get the hell out of the country to make room for those who actually want to play by the rules to get here. And if they don’t like that, then we can round them up, and deport them with nothing but the clothes on their back.
And before you decide that I am some kind of evil racist scum who hates immigrants, keep in mind what I said above. There are millions of people who WANT to come to this country, and are denied for whatever reason, and they don’t take it upon themselves to circumvent the system and come anyhow. Perhaps if we didn’t have however many (I don’t have the real number, I hear figures all over the place) illegals coming into the U.S., then maybe we’d have that many more spots open for LEGAL immigrants.
The rules are there for a reason. If you don’t want to play by them, go home.
